Analysis of past students blog

Research-
To start off their research past student 1 (PS1) did some research on famous music video directors. The directors they chose to research were Cameron Duddy and Romain Gavras. Their research on these 2 directors was motivated a lot on their personal preference to these 2 directors past work. PS1 gave their opinion on the directors stating why they like them so much. However despite going into detail about their personal liking they could have given some more examples of their past work and perhaps broke down a music video directed by each director shot by shot.

The second past student (PS2) constructed a survey for their fellow peers to fill out in order to find out the specific preferences of their target audience. Basic questions were asked such as; how old are you? What genre of music do you like? These questions are good to find the bases of their target audience’s preferences but they do not provide enough info for PS2 to go by in order to create their music video.

Planning-

1 aspect of PS1’s planning was creating a mock up for a digipak. They did this for the band “Dark Days” Album. Underneath the image of their rough mock up the state that this is how they wish it to look. This is ok but very basic and PS1 could have easily included some more detail to further explain the decisions behind their digipak mock up.

For PS2’s planning they created a story bored. This allowed them to map out their ideas for the video that they wished to create. Not much detail is needed in the images on the story board but perhaps more slots could have been made in order to show and explain in more detail more of the shots that would feature in their music video.

Music video-
When talking about editing their footage to create their music video PS1 goes into little detail. Only speaking about the basic organization of clips and the adding of the music. PS1 does not include and detail into why these decisions were made, how they made the video better.

When talking about their final video PS2 only talk about the colour scheme. Granted this is important as they explain how it is a recurring theme (black and white) throughout their video, digipak and advert but more info on the editing process and their opinions of the video should have been provided.

Evaluation-

PS1 uses a Prezi presentation to answer and evaluate question 1. This is good as it is the use of another program instead of just text and pictures.

Within PS2’s evaluation they use a voice recording of themselves talking about their final video. PS2 explain in this voice recording their opinions on some of the decisions they had to make that contributed to their final video.

Analysis of individual shots from opening 30 seconds of real Music video

The opening shot is a long shot showing this “character” from the knees up. The music video itself parodies music videos from the 1960’s (hence the black and white colour scheme). This is why this man appears at the start as his role is to announce the band.

The second shot is a short one ant it is a mid-shot with a pan to the right. The point of this shot is to show the audience and their reaction to the band (Nirvana) coming onto stage. The main focus point of this shot is the women who jump up in excitement for Nirvana.

The third shot, like the second, was short and primarily was to show the crowd and their reaction. A long shot is used to do this.

Finally the band is revealed through the use of an extreme long shot showcasing all members of the band on stage.

Following the long shot of the band comes a close up. This close up is of band lead Kurt Cobain.

Prelim Task Planning

Prelim Task Planning-

In planning my prelim task as a group consisting of; myself, Nathan Hill, Millie Ford and Chloe Mar-Gerrison. We split the opening minute of the music video into 4 sections, we were all allocated 15 seconds each to cover and create into a story board. I took controll of the section containing the seconds within the time of 45 seconds in to 1 minuite in.
